March 2010 - News from the Principal
Greetings!
Registration/tuition agreement
forms are due Monday March 1st. If you haven’t already sent yours
in, please do that as soon as possible. If you requested a fair share
conference, there is a form in the packet to select a time.
Last Wednesday, February 17th
our fourth, fifth, and sixth graders were fortunate to have a batting lesson
with the Minnesota Twins batting coach, Joe Vavra. The kids had a great time
and we are thankful he was able to spend some time with our students teaching
them valuable skills.
Last Tuesday we held our first
annual 4K Olympics. I am happy to report that is was a huge success.
Each 4K site is hosting a family involvement activity this year. We sponsored
the Olympics along with ABCs Daycare. The Olympics were a success in large part
to our 25 student volunteers, listed on the back. After school I briefly
explained each station and they just took it and ran. Within minutes the entire
gym was set up with 6 physical activities and the entry with 2 craft tables.
That evening and since I have had so many positive comments about how well our
children did helping the 4 year olds. I owe them a thank you for their service
to our school and positive attitude.
For Lent, we have sent home mite
boxes. Students are encouraged to give money and bring it to school on
Fridays. The money collected will go to two places. Half will go to Catholic
Relief for the Haiti earthquake fund. The other half will go toward our mission
parish in Bolivia, toward building a new church! Each Friday, students can bring
in their mite boxes, empty them into a container, and color in a brick on the
church outline in the front lobby.
Mrs. Cinker will also be coordinating our Raffle for Missions.
Starting on March 8th, tickets will be on sale for 25 cents. On
March 10th, Bucks for Blue Jeans will be for the same cause, with
their dollar purchasing 4 raffle tickets and out of uniform for the day.
Drawings for the raffle prizes will be on Friday, March 19th.
March 2nd is Dr. Seuss’
birthday and celebrated nationally as ‘Read Across America’ Day. We are
celebrating by having reading celebrities come to each class and read stories.
Check out our awesome list of volunteers on the back!
Please make every effort to follow
our dress code. A copy is enclosed for your convenience. We have a liberal
code which is simple to follow.
Miss McCandless’ second graders are
giving facelifts to the Quiet Bags used at church. They were required to
do a chore at home and bring in 50 cents or a dollar to purchase supplies. They
are going to sort, clean, and restock the bags. Thanks, second graders for this
great service to our parish!
I was fortunate to be in fourth
grade this week as they studied and created parallel and series circuits. The
end result of a correctly assembled circuit was a balloon ‘explosion’ that was
pretty cool.
The MHS band also made an
appearance this week. Fifth and sixth grade had the opportunity to hear a live
version of the fight song, demo about different instruments and how they sound,
and the return of several St. Joe’s alumni. Thanks to Rachel Ausman, Tim
Caturia, Adam Brahmstadt, Sean Patrick Sirinek and friends for their great
presentation.
Blessings for a prayerful Lent
season.
Sincerely,
Mrs. Drout Keila.drout@menomoniecatholic.org
